Convenient Homes vs Smart Homes
After being involved in smart homes for over 5 years now, I think the biggest blunder people make is being content by controlling everything from their phone. Now don't get me wrong, we all start somewhere, and the easiest way to do this is by accessing everything through your phone. But isn't a smart home something that knows what we need before we do, and can control the devices without us doing anything.
I remember The Simpsons episode (S13e1) growing up where they had "Ultra House" installed. It was brilliant until it eventually turned evil. But that is what I mean when I want a smart home (I mean the first part, not the evil part), something that turns the lights on when I walk in a room, turns them off when I leave and does this things I want before I do them.
A Smart Home where you need your phone on you, isn't smart. It is a Convenient Home, until it isn't. You walk in with your luggage after a long journey, and then you have to get your phone out to turn on your lights when the light switch is directly there.
